Alignment with already implemented information technology, such as infrastructure and business information systems. If the chosen product is not effectively aligned it is likely that higher implementation and ongoing costs will arise due to the required integration effort.

*Please note that portal products offered by hardware suppliers, especially if these suppliers are also engaged in strategy and implementation planning, are likely to preference specific infrastructure strategies that may involve a higher total cost of ownership.

Hardware infrastructure requirements should also be based on a network / bandwidth impact analysis of specific portal products. While the deployment of a basic portal may often be achieved based on current network capacity (achieved via limiting the bandwidth requirements of portal content, e.g. setting size limits, etc.) the longer term sustainability of the portal will depend on sufficient network resources.
